The Department of Mathematics, of SPACES Degree College (A), on 20th December 2025, successfully organized the National Mathematics Day Celebrations – Infinitum–2025, commemorating the birth anniversary and enduring legacy of the legendary mathematician Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan. The theme Infinitum symbolizes the boundless nature of mathematics and its ever-expanding horizons, reflecting infinite curiosity, innovation and learning. The event reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and the promotion of mathematical thinking among students.
The celebration brought together eminent academicians who shared valuable insights into contemporary and applied areas of mathematics, thereby enriching the academic experience of the participants.
The program was graced by Prof. S.R.Santhanam, President – AIMER and Member – International Group of Mathematical Creativity & Giftedness, who attended as the Chief Guest. He delivered an inspiring lecture titled “Mathematics in Technology and Technology in Mathematics.”
In his address, Prof. S.R.Santhanam emphasized that mathematics is deeply embedded in everyday life and forms the backbone of modern technological advancements. He clearly explained the interdependent relationship between mathematics and technology—how mathematical principles drive innovation and how technological tools, in turn, enhance mathematical research and applications. He encouraged students to adopt mathematics as a lifelong skill and draw inspiration from the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan to contribute meaningfully to national development through knowledge and creativity.
Dr. K.Aruna Kumari, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, GITAM School of Science, GITAM (Deemed to be) University, Visakhapatnam, attended the program as Guest of Honour and delivered an enlightening lecture on “An Introduction to Discrete Mathematical Structures and Their Applications.” She introduced students to the fundamental concepts of discrete mathematics and explained their significance in areas such as computer science, data analysis and emerging technologies. She also highlighted the remarkable contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan and motivated students by emphasizing how strong mathematical reasoning can lead to innovation, research opportunities, and global recognition.
Another Guest of Honour, Dr. M.Sivaiah, Principal, Government Degree College, Nakkapalli, addressed the gathering on “Numerical Techniques in Mathematics.”
He elaborated on the practical importance of numerical techniques in solving real-world problems across science, engineering and technology. He encouraged students to pursue higher education and research in mathematics, highlighting the vast academic and professional opportunities available in the field.
As part of Infinitum–2025, the Department of Mathematics organized several academic and skill-oriented competitions to enhance students’ analytical, logical, and problem-solving abilities. The activities included Crossword Puzzle Competition, Quiz Competition and Word Search Activities.
The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and successfully promoted logical thinking, creativity and teamwork. Winners of the quiz competition were awarded cash prizes and mementos as a token of encouragement and appreciation.
The program was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. A.Ramakrishna Reddy, Principal, SPACES Degree College(A). The event was efficiently coordinated by Mr. P.Ch.V.Subbarao, Program Co-ordinator, Vice Principal & Head, Department of Mathematics, and Mr. K.V.V.Eswararao, Organizing Secretary and Lecturer in Mathematics. The collective efforts of the faculty members, students and staff ensured the smooth and successful execution of the program.
