02Profile

The Department of Zoology was established in 1993 with the objective of providing quality education in Animal Sciences and promoting zoological studies among the rural learning community. Since its inception, the department has been committed to nurturing scientific knowledge, environmental awareness, and social responsibility among students.

The study of Zoology enables students to understand the natural world and appreciate the importance of maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. It also provides opportunities to explore and address global challenges such as climate change, food security, environmental degradation and public health concerns, thereby contributing towards the welfare of both humans and animals.

Zoology is a fascinating branch of science that deals with the study of animals, their diversity, structure, functions, behaviour, evolution, and interactions within ecosystems. As humans are also a part of the animal kingdom, the subject naturally develops curiosity and scientific understanding about life and living systems. Through the study of Zoology, students gain deeper insights into the role of animals as integral components of ecosystems and their influence on environmental sustainability and economic well-being.

The knowledge of animal biology and physiological functions opens avenues to several emerging and interdisciplinary fields. In recent years, both fundamental and applied Zoology have gained increasing importance in areas such as biodiversity conservation, environmental monitoring, biotechnology, bioinformatics, biomedical sciences and paramedical sciences. The department strives to inspire students towards research, innovation and scientific exploration while preparing them to meet the evolving demands of academia, industry, and society.
