On 12 September 2026, the II B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology and II B.Sc. Biochemistry (Minor) students of SPACES Degree College (A), Payakaraopeta visited Abbai Doctor Clinical Laboratory, Tuni, with which the institution has an academic collaboration. The visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to clinical laboratory procedures and to connect their classroom learning with real-life laboratory practices.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the organization and functioning of a clinical diagnostic laboratory. They learned about sample collection, labeling, processing, analysis, reporting, and maintenance of patient records.
The students observed the collection and handling of different biological samples such as blood and urine. They were introduced to common diagnostic tests including Complete Blood Count (CBC), blood glucose, lipid profile, liver and kidney function tests, urine analysis, and other biochemical and hematological investigations.
Students also gained practical knowledge about commonly used laboratory equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, and automated analyzers. The laboratory staff explained the importance of proper instrument handling, calibration, maintenance, and quality control.
The students were also introduced to basic microbiological and pathological techniques, including specimen preparation, staining, and examination. The importance of sterilization, disinfection, infection control, and biomedical waste management was explained to them.
Special attention was given to laboratory safety and professional ethics. Students learned about the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of biological samples, prevention of contamination, proper disposal of biomedical waste, and maintaining patient confidentiality.
The visit helped students understand the important role of clinical laboratory investigations in disease diagnosis, treatment, and health monitoring. It also provided them with an awareness of career opportunities in clinical diagnostics, biotechnology, biomedical laboratories, research, and allied healthcare fields.
The interaction with laboratory professionals was informative and helped students understand the practical application of concepts studied in their curriculum. Overall, the educational visit was a valuable learning experience that improved the students' practical knowledge, laboratory skills, safety awareness, and professional outlook.
The Department of Zoology and Biochemistry sincerely thank the management and staff of Abbai Doctor Clinical Laboratory, Tuni, for their valuable cooperation, guidance, and support in making the visit successful and meaningful.
