Field Visit to Poultry Farm

The Department of Zoology of SPACES Degree College (A), organized an educational field visit to a poultry farm at N.N. Patnam, Rowthulapudi Mandal, Kakinada District, on September 9, 2026. The visit was undertaken by 13 students, accompanied by Mrs. Ch. Mangatayaru, Lecturer in Zoology, and Miss Asha Pallavi, Lecturer in Botany.

The students visited the poultry farm located about 20 km from the college and were welcomed by Mr. Lalam Ajay, Farm Manager. He explained various aspects of modern poultry farming, including shed construction, breed selection, brooding practices, vaccination, disease management, feed and water management, and farm hygiene.

The farm consists of six sheds, each accommodating around 2,000 broiler birds. The Cobb breed is reared at the farm, and students gained practical knowledge about chick management, feeding practices, vaccination schedules, and maintaining proper hygiene to control diseases. The students also learned about the challenges faced by poultry farmers, particularly during summer, and the costs involved in poultry production.

The visit provided students with valuable practical, skill-based, and experiential learning related to poultry farming and animal husbandry. The students expressed their gratitude to Mr. Lalam Ajay for his valuable guidance and for patiently clarifying their queries.

The Department sincerely thanks Dr. A. R. K. Reddy, Principal, and Sri Ch. V. K. Narasimha Rao, Secretary and Correspondent, for providing the necessary support and facilities for the successful organization of the field visit.
