SPACES Degree College organized a one-day traditional culinary workshop titled “Flashback Flavours” on 10th December 2024. The workshop aimed to celebrate India’s rich cultural and culinary heritage, while also offering students practical exposure to traditional food preparation techniques.
The initiative was guided by the agenda to integrate extra-curricular activities into the broader scope of skill-based learning, especially for students interested in traditional practices like home-based cooking and food entrepreneurship. The workshop not only served as a cultural celebration but also encouraged students to consider food-related ventures as viable career opportunities.
Organized under the supervision of Ms. D. Rupa Swarna Kumari, Programme Coordinator, dthe workshop featured Mrs. B. Durga as the guest instructor, an expert in traditional South Indian cuisine. The key dishes prepared during the session were “Thokkudu Laddu” and “Pappu Chekkalu”, two time-honored delicacies known for their taste and traditional value.
A total of 20 students enthusiastically registered and participated in the workshop. Under Mrs. Durga’s expert guidance, students engaged in hands-on training, learning the step-by-step process of preparing the dishes from scratch. They were taught essential techniques such as mixing, shaping, frying, and maintaining consistency and hygiene — all while understanding the cultural relevance and significance of each dish.
The students displayed great interest and dedication throughout the session, appreciating the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom. The workshop fostered creativity, teamwork, and practical culinary skills, empowering students to consider similar skills for self-employment and small-scale business opportunities.
The Secretary and Correspondent of the college shared valuable insights on costing and business tips, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
The college management organized the workshop, and the participants expressed their gratitude to the management, faculty members, and staff for their support and encouragement. The workshop was a huge success, and the participants gained valuable knowledge and skills in traditional Andhra cuisine.
