International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking @ SPACES
In advance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, an awareness session was conducted by Special Enforcement Bereau, Payakaraopeta , Anakapalli district in SPACES Degree College on June 20, 2024. Mr. John Prakash, Sub Inspector - SEB, addressed the students, focusing on the dangers of drug abuse, the impact of illicit trafficking, and the legal framework against these issues.
Mr. John Prakash explained what constitutes drug abuse, detailing various types of drugs commonly abused, including both legal substances like alcohol and prescription medications, and illegal substances like cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines. He discussed the psychological and physical effects of drug abuse, emphasizing the potential for addiction and long-term health consequences. Students were informed about the laws and regulations governing drug use and trafficking in India, including the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The role of drug inspectors and other authorities in enforcing these laws was elucidated.
The session stressed the importance of preventive measures, such as education and community programs, in curbing drug abuse.
Resources and support systems available for individuals struggling with addiction were shared, including rehabilitation centres and helplines.
